After the Charleston massacre in 2015, many white women needed and wanted more knowledge, analysis, and action. We started White Awake as a combination of study, self-examination, skill-building and action. We believe it is critical to learn from history and to bloom where we are planted.
what we do together
Through a combination of discussion, reflection, exercises and action we become more effective to standing up to racism in our families, neighborhoods, workplaces, organization and institutions.
We begin with looking at ourselves, build understanding beyond the interpersonal to the working of systemic racism, how it developed, how it has been resisted and lessons we can apply as we:
Become courageous and effective standing up to racism in our families, neighborhoods, workplaces, organizations and institutions
Deepen awareness of ourselves as white people and of white supremacy
Learn untaught history of racism and how it is maintained
Take steps that move us into social action
Grow in well -led circle of learning, unlearning, encouragement & challenge
